The post here is one, but in fact chapters are two, and quite distinct. More than chapters, these are totally different stories after all – like in a Raymond Carver’s book if you want (yep, I like him a lot).
Btw, talking about books, if you don’t judge a book by its cover here it’s a good way to consider the first story, so:
HANNA VERHEES

I had the chance to mention Hanna in a recent post about Bo Don @ Gravure, and… well, my words were I really think behind that “sunshine lollipops and rainbows” vibe she transmits at a very first glance there is a very promising model, and I really think that. Yep, she’s a work in progress, totally, she’s as fresh as “raw”, but I have some expectations – and absolutely positive.
hehe btw the “sunshine lollipops and rainbows” vibe isn’t a bad thing, she’s adorable and I really like her a lot from this point of view too; I just think there’s a lot more, and with time it will come out. This, even if it’s only about a couple of shots, is a good example after all.
MAAIKE KLAASEN

This story is a little more complicated. For me Maaike is… well, briefly, “Maaike is Maaike”, for me she’s already a model with a strong identity and it’s not especially about potentialities but qualities. I mean, it’s not about something I’ll expect, she’s already a model you can count on, if you say “Dutch model” Maaike is in the first 3 names I’ll instinctively think about, that’s it (even if she’s still 16 in fact).
That said… ok, time for a little criticism, even if it’s a very constructive one after all. So yep, I find her so unique, already a noteworthy and remarkable model, but… yes, there is a but, and it’s about… the cause will explain the point pretty well: I guess the fact she still isn’t a 24/7 focused model (and I’m glad about it: every time I can I underline the “school first of all” motto – so I take the opportunity here too) is an important factor. You know, talking about models “raw” hasn’t only one meaning, but if you want to consider a double acceptation it may be about 1) “the modeling stuff”, so posing, looking comfortable, get out the best from any shoot, a still not confident/elegant/decent walk talking about runway, and so on, or 2) things more “appearance related”, so: things like body definition (here the case especially imo), skin / hair / whatever care, and so on. We’ll see, but I’m sure with time I won’t have any kind of doubt about her, both about points 1 (the way it is now) and 2 – and, well, better underline it: I literally love her even now, it’s about “loving her even more” I guess.
In conclusion, a little general consideration about the shots. I pretty liked the use and combination of denim and how it seconds and supports both models’ strong points and identities, so: fairy, graceful and somehow weightless Hanna, a little more undone/unbuttoned, self-confident and sensual for Maaike – an interesting and pleasing collection of short stories in fact.
