Caterina Ravaglia @ i-D Magazine Winter 2011 by Nick Dorey – It seems it’s been ages…

I’ve never been one of those who (more or less appropriately) say or just think things like “I’ve been (one of) the first who believed in her” or similar, and I won’t do it today neither. I’ll underline another thing… well, in fact if I think about that now, it seems impossible to me these are my words:

if I can’t feel anything like “eeew!”, so far I never had that weird and amazing and breathtaking feeling neither. I’ve always been “somewhere in between” (even if most of the times in the “positive half” for sure), talking about runway too.

It was the very first post I did about Caterina in fact, and even if it was already months I was following her she had walked very few shows and had a pretty little portfolio.

So, no, even if I’d like to underline this too (in that moment she didn’t have the space she has now)

But about one thing I’m quite sure: I absolutely expect to see her more, ‘cause so far she objectively didn’t the way she deserved. And a lot of times, really a lot, watching a show, this or that editorial/ad/whatever, (as I wrote in Simona Andrejic post) I simply think: “Why not Caterina Ravaglia?”. I honestly can’t find an answer, ‘cause if as I said I’m not sure about a lot of things, about one I am: this model has good numbers, is talented – and I pretty like her

what I wanted to underline was especially that: I honestly thought I would have only appreciated her, nothing less, nothing more. A good, interesting, solid model you can count on, but (maybe: not by chance I compared her to Valerija Kelava wondering about her future, and luckily it was a good and right option) just and only that.

Well, now it seems it’s been ages since I used to think things like that and have those doubts…

(btw I want to underline I liked a lot styling and makeup, really interesting and simply perfect)

Since that post I did a good number of other posts about Caterina, both about editorials and runway appearances (in fact excluding “monographs” about FWs, and I’ll do another one soon, I mentioned her, always positively, in a lot of shows), and… yes, it clearly seems ages have passed, and little by little and almost imperceptibly a lot of things have changed for me. If the title of that first post was “Why not Caterina Ravaglia?”, I now think… Caterina is Caterina, a unique model with a very interesting beauty, cryptic femininity and capable of being an exceptional interpreter (both on the runway and in front of a camera) like few others around – I guess it’s plain for all to see. And I found these shots a very welcome opportunity to underline it once again…
