+ Maja Matkovic by Sam Hessamian – Mutations

What to say?, it’s been weeks since I noticed Maja, better months, and even if “I absolutely want to share something about her” passed through my mind again and again, well, you know how these things work, I forgot once, and twice, and so on, until today. The fact I just shared something about her doesn’t mean I’m only now convinced about this amazing Croatian new face, but it’s simply a climax made of growing interest and enthusiastic expectations.
So yep, I waited, and waited, but luckily (almost) any news from such a model is fated to be good news, and these recent shots by Sam Hessamian confirmed it with outstanding ease:

I guess three strong points and unique trademarks make of Maja one of the most interesting new faces around (in my humble  opinion, obvious), so here they are:
-an astonishing, solid like few other models have and statuary presence (for the record, 1.85 – 82/62/89);
-one of the most interesting and cryptic femininities around (despite her very young age it’s already an inscrutable and fascinating mystery);
-a natural and intrinsic (and drop dead austere, thanks to her proportions as well) intensity she can express with astonishing ease.
So yes, once I take somehow for granted (obviously a mistake, but let’s pretend it’s obvious) the fact in front of a camera she’s simply flawless and impeccable like a consummate veteran, those three things make me literally go crazy. And what I liked of these shots is the fact those three points have all been (partially excluding the first one) perfectly highlighted and showed if not in the best way possible somewhere right there.

It’s so hard to define a new face unique or a breath of fresh air nowadays, it is ‘cause models are more than ever and it seems somehow easier to express a passionate even if quite ephemeral enthusiasm – but this is not the case. I think of Maja as a model with some limits and most important pretty hard to “bridle” for the best (her body presence and presence especially), I won’t ignore those things, but that said, all I can express are keen considerations and a sincere enthusiasm.
I heard and read she somehow reminds Kirsi Pyrhonen, Ylonka Verheul, two models I literally love, some other names, but… yep, I may somehow agree. But the most important thing is she totally reinvent the qualities of those models; it’s like… what about “Mutations”, one of my fav albums, by Beck? I think Maja embodies that same kind of surprising reinventions, made of familiar melodies and disarming moments of wonderful, variegated and conflicting suggestions. And these are only the very first tracks of this marvelous album called “Maja Matkovic”.
